India’s first female air marshal, Dr. Padma Bandopadhyay, has been awarded the Padma Shri award. Dr. Padma arrived in the Air Force dress to receive the award. Her happiness shows how proud she is of her work for the country. 77-year-old Dr. Padma Bandyopadhyay is the real example of establishing women’s empowerment in the society! President Ram Nath Kovind honored her with the Padma Shri award.
First woman Air Marshal of India
77-year-old Dr. Padma Bandopadhyay is the country’s first female Air Marshal. Dr. Padma has worked in the Indian Air Force for 37 years. She has done commendable work in the field of medicine. She is the first woman to be elected as a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Society of India. She was the first Indian woman to conduct scientific research on the North Pole.
Dr. Padma worked at Air Headquarters as the Director General Medical Services (Air). In 2002, she was promoted to the rank of Air Vice Marshal (two stars). This year, the Padma award will be given to 34 women who have achieved success in their fields and have served as an inspiration to others.
Highest civilian honors of India
The Padma award is one of India’s highest civilian honors. These awards are given in three categories- Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher-order), and Padma Shri (distinguished service). This year, 119 Padma Awards will be awarded. This list includes 7 Padma Vibhushans, 10 Padma Bhushan, and 102 Padma Shri awards.
