The 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup will be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, and the state of Odisha intends to organize city festivals in both of those locations. The FIH World Cup organizing committee made this decision on November 4 after a meeting.
The conference, presided over by Chief Secretary S.C. Mahapatra and President of Hockey India Dilip Tirkey, brought together the heads of all departments to assess the status of various operations related to the event’s efficient and effective operation.
In addition to city-level celebrations, district-level celebrations of the mega sporting event are also being planned in significant towns throughout the state.
During the discussion, it was reported that commercial flight service to Rourkela is anticipated to begin the following month. According to an official, plans are being made for the participating teams to take charter flights between the two venues.
Special Bus Services to be Provided
Special buses would also run during the World Cup to make transportation easier for players, officials, and spectators. At the meeting, Mahapatra gave orders to the various departments to complete the tasks related to the major event well ahead of the deadline.
Focus was placed on hospitality and connection, showcasing Odisha as a land rich in culture and legacy as well as a hockey centre.
The conference decided to coordinate sporting events and carnivals with local schools. Mahapatra also made green practices a priority at both locations.
From January 13 to January 29, 2023, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela will host the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup.
