A study reveal drinking multiple cups of tea has various health benefits

According to a new study on the effects of drinking several cups of tea per day, the practise has numerous health benefits ranging from lowering the risk of diabetes, stroke, and heart disease to lowering overall mortality.

The findings will be presented at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes next week. According to the researchers, the study included over one million adult participants from eight different countries.

According to the study’s findings, drinking one to three cups of your favourite tea beverage reduced your risk of type 2 diabetes by 4%. Meanwhile, each additional cup of coffee reduced the risk of developing diabetes by 1%.

“Our results are exciting because they suggest that people can do something as simple as drinking four cups of tea a day to potentially lessen their risk of developing type 2 diabetes,” said a researcher related to the study.

Polyphenols in tea leaves

According to the study’s researchers, the benefits of drinking tea may be related to the presence of polyphenols in tea leaves, which produce antioxidants.

These compounds benefit the human body by reducing inflammation and stress. As a result, it helps to lower the risk of certain cardiovascular conditions.

Study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine last month also found that drinking tea has health benefits.

Notably, researchers from the National Cancer Institute in the United States studied the tea habits of nearly half million adults in the United Kingdom and followed them for
up to 14 years, taking into account risk factors such as health, socioeconomics, smoking, alcohol consumption, gender, and so on.

Finally, researchers concluded that drinking two or more cups of tea daily reduces the risk of death from any cause by 9% to 13% compared to non-tea drinkers.
