Rajasthan govt plans to implement 100-day urban employment guarantee scheme

On September 9, the Rajasthan government plans to launch an ambitious scheme to provide 100 days of employment to needy families in urban areas, similar to the MGNREGA rural employment guarantee scheme.

More than 2.25 lakh families have already registered for the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme, which was proposed in the state budget this year by chief minister Ashok Gehlot.

Scheme which will be launched on September 9

According to an official, the scheme, which will be launched on September 9, will cover tasks such as environmental protection, water and heritage conservation, garden maintenance, and the removal of encroachments, illegal sign boards, hoardings, banners, and so on.

Sanitation, cleanliness and other such works will also be undertaken under the scheme, he said.

“People from the age group of 18 to 60 are eligible for the scheme. Interested families will get 100 days of employment. The scheme will be implemented in all the urban local bodies from September 9,” PTI quoted an official from local self-government department as saying.

Ministers in charge of districts will launch scheme in their respective areas

The state government has set aside Rs 800 crore for the scheme. Ministers in charge of districts will launch the scheme in their respective areas. Chief Minister Gehlot recently convened a meeting to review the scheme’s implementation preparations.

The material cost to remuneration cost ratio for getting “general nature” work approved and executed will be 25:75, while the ratio will be reversed for “special nature” work. Details on the works to be kept in these two categories were not immediately available.

Payments will be made to the beneficiary’s bank account within 15 days. The scheme includes a provision for resolving complaints and conducting a social audit. According to the official, the state government will award local governments that perform exceptionally well under the scheme.
