Kanika Rathi Became IAS in 6 Years, Left Job of Union Ministry for preparation of UPSC



Kanika Rathi, a resident of Bahadurgarh, Haryana, has made the entire village proud by passing the UPSC exam. She achieved her childhood ambition by ranking 64th in the Civil Services Examination. Kanika left her government job to study for the UPSC exam, and she attributes her success entirely to her parents and family.

Kanika Rathi’s father is an engineer. Dr. Anil Rathi, his uncle, is a senior doctor in Jhajjar’s medical department. At the same time, her mother, Neelam Tripathi, works as a teacher. Kanika Rathi has excelled since her school days. She earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Kirori Mal College in Delhi after graduating from Bal Bharti School in Bahadurgarh. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in liberal studies from Ashoka University.

Began preparing for UPSC exam in 2015

Kanika Rathi, an IAS officer, began preparing for the UPSC exam in 2015. She began preparing for the UPSC exam at a coaching centre in Delhi’s Karol Bagh neighbourhood. After failing in 2016 and 2017, she began preparing for a government job.

Appointed to Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019

Kanika Rathi was appointed to the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019. She resigned from her government job in Patna’s IB department after consulting her parents. She had her UPSC interview on 30 April 2022, and the results were released on 30 May 2022. Her joy knew no bounds after receiving the 64th position in the UPSC exam. She eventually passed the exam on her fourth attempt and became an IAS.

IAS Kanika Rathi also enjoys gardening and painting. She used to study for 5-6 hours a day and believe that revision is the key to success. She went to coaching for a year, but then she preferred self-study. She also used YouTube tutorials to help her with her studies.
