An Ahmedabad-based hospital receives approval for a lung transplant facility, the state’s first of its kind, in a significant breakthrough for organ transplant in Gujarat.
Medical sources claim that because the state did not have a centre for lung transplants, patients had to go to other states in the past.
In Gujarat, various hospitals, including IKDRC in Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, do organ transplants of the kidney, liver, small intestine, and uterus.
The KD Hospital in Ahmedabad now receives authorisation for a lung transplant.
Collaboration has been made on the lung transplant facilities between the KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad and the Kusum Dhirajlal Hospital in Ahmedabad (KD Hospital).
According to Dr. Mukesh Patel, senior consultant interventional pulmonologist and lung transplant specialist at KD Hospital, end-stage lung transplant is the only effective treatment for patients with lung illness. A glimmer of hope for respiratory disorders has been seen in this facility. He added, “As the number of asthma patients increases in India, we have to make a concerted effort to treat them.”
