CG govt launch ‘Krishna Kunj’ plantation drive On Janmashtmi to strengthen state’s green cover

On the auspicious day of Janmashtmi, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will launch the ‘Krishna Kunj’ plantation drive in an environmentally friendly initiative to increase the state’s green cover. Trees with cultural and medicinal significance will be planted in strategic locations throughout the state.

A Krishna-Kunj is also being developed at Telibandha in Raipur and Chief Minister Baghel will launch the plantation drive from this ‘Krishn Kunj’ on 19th of August. Chief Minister Baghel further said, “The initiative has been named ‘Krishna-Kunj’ so that people understand the god-like and divine values of life-giving trees.” He also said that this initiative will help increase the number of trees of cultural significance and help preserve such unique trees.

Initiative will plant several varieties of trees

This initiative will plant several varieties of trees that are important in our culture and Ayurveda, such as Banyan, Peepal, Kadamba, mangoes, tamarind, plum, Ganga tamarind, Jamun, Ganga ber, Mulberry, Tendu, Chironji, Pomegranate, Kaitha, Neem, Gular, Palas, Guava, Plantation of Sitaphal, Bel, Amla. It is worth noting that trees such as Peepal, Banyan, and Neem have a high capacity for oxygen release. They also grow quickly and have a long lifespan, so this initiative has the potential to significantly reduce global warming.

The Chief Minister directed all collectors to give the Forest Department at least one acre of land for the development of ‘Krishna-Kunj.’ So far, 162 locations in the state have been identified for the term ‘Krishna Kunj.’ Plantation preparations are also being carried out with zeal. From this Krishna Janmashtami, tree planting will begin at designated sites throughout the state.

The existence of these trees is threatened due to the indiscriminate felling of trees caused by rapid urbanisation in recent years. The ‘Krishna-Kunj’ initiative is being undertaken to raise awareness about the importance of trees to future generations.

Locations chosen for Krishna-Kunj

Many locations have been chosen for Krishna-Kunj, including ten Raipur district urban bodies: Kurra, Kharora, Birgaon, Attari, Telibandha, Arang, Chandkhuri, Kurud Samoda, and Urla. Plantation will take place on Janmashtami in a total of 162 selected sites, including three in Mahasamund of Gariaband district, two in Gourela Pendra district, seven in Koriya district, three in Kondagaon district, four in Dantewada district, and one each in Bijapur, Sukma, and Narayanpur. Every festival in Chhattisgarh is associated with nature and primitive culture, demonstrating the state’s cultural diversity. An exemplary initiative is being undertaken to save these culturally significant trees through ‘Krishna-Kunj’ in order to value and conserve our primitive culture and nature.
