In order to strengthen the defense mechanism of India, Emergency Landing Facility for the Indian Air Force has been developed in Barmer. The 3 km Satta-Gandhav stretch of NH-925 is developed as an Emergency Landing Facility (EFL). It is developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It is India’s first national highway to be used for IAF emergency landings.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the EFL. A mock emergency landing on the national highway was performed by an IAF Hercules C-130J plane.
While inaugurating EFL on the national highway, the Union Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh said, ’India is ready to defend its unity, integrity and sovereignty and is capable to deal with any challenges’.
ELF will work as highway during normal hours
The ELF will be used for smooth flow of road traffic during normal hours, and the service road will be used for smooth flow of road traffic during ELF operations for the Indian Air Force.

The ELF was built in 19 months. This ELF’s work began in July 2019 and was completed in January 2021. GHV India Private Limited carried out the work under the supervision of the IAF and the NHAI.
