International Youth Day 2022: Date, Theme, History & Significance

Every year on August 12, 2022, International Youth Day is observed. This day is observed to raise awareness about issues affecting the world’s youth.

The main goal of this day is to raise awareness about any injustice or discrimination against youth in the world.

International Youth Day History

The United Nations officially recognised International Youth Day in 1999, when the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to establish it. This day was established on the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers, and they are responsible for declaring August 12th as International Youth Day.

This day was necessary because a large number of youth around the world are struggling with issues related to physical or mental health, education, and employment, and all of these issues must be addressed.

When the government or society does not focus on proper development of the youth, they tend to become rebellious and many times they can opt for the choices which are neither good for their development nor for their country.

International Youth Day Significance

The International Youth Day is dedicated to the society’s young generation, who will be the leaders of tomorrow. Youth play an important role in bringing about change in society.

Workshops, concerts, conferences, cultural events, seminars, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organisations take place all over the world on International Youth Day, which is also significant.

International Youth Day celebrates the contributions of young people and volunteers who are working towards betterment of the society and are raising important issues that need more attention of the society.

International Youth Day 2022 Theme

Every year on August 12th, International Youth Day is observed, and this year’s theme is “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages.”

The goal is to spread the message that action from all generations is required to achieve Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs while leaving no one behind.
