World Biofuel Day 2022: History, significance and why the day celebrated

Every year on August 10, World Biofuel Day is observed to raise awareness about the use of non-fossil fuel as an alternative to conventional fossil fuel. Biofuel is any fuel derived from biomass, such as plants, agricultural wastes, crops, algae, or animal waste. On this day, the government and private organisations join forces to raise awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative energy source. There are numerous reasons to use biofuels instead of fossil fuels. One of the most important reasons is that it can aid in the reduction of carbon emissions.

World Biofuel Day: History

Sir Rudolf Diesel is honoured on World Biofuel Day. He was the inventor of the diesel engine, as the name implies. With an experiment, he was the first to predict the use of vegetable oils as an alternative to
fossil fuels.

He was the first to use peanut oil to power a mechanical engine. World Biofuel Day is observed to commemorate this marvellous experiment.

World Biofuel Day: Significance

Biofuels are critical to reducing our reliance on crude oil while also ensuring a cleaner environment. It leads to the creation of more jobs for rural residents.

It also contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions. The combustion of fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide, which is extremely harmful to our air and environment.

Rising air pollution and carbon emissions from the use of fossil fuels have transformed major cities such as Delhi into toxic gas chambers. Even if a person does not smoke, his or her lungs can be transformed into those of a smoker if continuously exposed to such toxic gases.

The fact that everyone needs to think about the environment and also their health, biofuel is the need of the hour. If used as an alternative to fossil fuel, it can drastically reduce the release of harmful gases, like carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides.

World Biofuel Day: Theme

The theme of World Biofuel Day for the year 2022 hasn’t been announced yet. The theme for the previous year was “the promotion of biofuels for a better environment”.
