The state of Uttar Pradesh has achieved 108% of the target set under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2022–23 in the first quarter alone, which appears to be a significant accomplishment for the state's government in terms of employment generation. According to an official, the Yogi Adityanath government also met 95% of the goal for establishing small-scale units under the programme.

According to Principal Secretary for Micro, MSME, Khadi, Village Industries Export Promotion, Navneet Sehgal, the government hired 16,257 unemployed persons in the first quarter alone, exceeding its goal of employing 15,000 youngsters by the end of the second quarter of 2022–2023 by 8%.

The PMEGP scheme

Hari Ram Singh, the person in charge of the PMEGP plan, disclosed that while 1,636 units were constructed by the government, or 95% of the target, under the PMEGP scheme, 1,850 units were supposed to be set up in the state by the second quarter.

According to Singh, small and micro businesses are springing up quickly in rural regions thanks to the PMEGP. Of the 2,194 applications that were granted, 1,636 have already been operational, and work is still being done on the other units.

1,60,166 unemployed people given new jobs

Furthermore, approximately Rs 6 crore of the Rs 7 crore received for setting up industries has already been spent. In the last five years, 15,090 units in rural areas of the state have been established at a cost of Rs 1,982 crore. Simultaneously, 1,60,166 unemployed people have been given new jobs.

It is worth noting that the Yogi government has prioritised providing jobs to unemployed youth and encouraging them to become job creators by establishing micro and small-scale industrial ventures. The Chief Minister also oversees work on his dream project, which is to encourage the establishment of small and micro industries in the state.

PMEGP scheme to provide employment opportunities

The Central Government launched the PMEGP scheme to provide employment opportunities to the country's unemployed youth. This scheme makes loans ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh available to the country's unemployed youth in order for them to start industrial ventures. The scheme also provides the beneficiary with a subsidy of up to 35%.
