Himachal Pradesh is the first state in the country to link all registered commercial vehicles equipped with a Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) to an Emergency Response Support System (ERSS). Through VLTD, these vehicles can now be tracked anywhere in the country. Over 9,423 vehicles have been registered and are linked to ERSS. It is now being monitored by both the police and the transportation department.
Panic button for safety in public vehicles
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur formally inaugurated the system at Peterhof in Shimla. He also added a panic button for the safety of women and children in public vehicles. Speaking on the occasion, Jai Ram Thakur stated that the State has pioneered in the implementation of this Project, which is a source of great pride for the entire state’s people.
He stated that with the establishment of this monitoring centre, it would be easier to detect vehicle theft and accidents for the safety of women and children in the state. Chief Minister, this is an innovative initiative that will make state roads safer and more secure.
It should be noted that the Vehicle Location Tracking Device with Emergency Panic Button System and Command Control Center is linked to the Emergency Response Support System 112. When the panic button is pressed, a signal is sent via satellite to 112, and the person in distress is connected, alerting the police.
