India have 2 active research stations in Antarctica
The Bill seeks to extend the application of domestic laws to India's Antarctic research stations. India operates two active research stations in Antarctica, Maitri and Bharti, where scientists conduct research.
The Bill proposes to prohibit Indian expeditions to Antarctica without a permit or written authorization from another party to the Antarctic Treaty, to require inspection by an officer appointed by the government, and to impose penalties for violations of certain provisions of the legislation.
It also aims to establish a fund to support Antarctic research and environmental protection on the icy continent.
