SEDI Initiative: Ambuja Cement Foundation Trained Over 88,000 Youth in 10 States

In order to help India’s young population acquire job-relevant skills and livelihoods, Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) has provided skill training to over 88,000 youngsters from rural and semi-urban areas throughout 10 States of India, with a placement rate of 76%. (Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Institutes).

About SEDI

SEDI is a groundbreaking skill development programme that aims to give rural adolescents sustainable means of surviving by putting them through practical vocational training. The initiative also promotes entrepreneurship among its students and encourages them to start their own businesses in order to improve their financial situation.

Pearl Tiwari added on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, “Every year, 15 million youth enter the workforce, but industry studies show that more than 75 percent of them are not ‘job-ready.’ In this context,
SEDI’s achievement of providing vocational training to over 88,000 youth in order to make them employable is extremely satisfying. ACF is dedicated to improving the lives of people in rural areas by creating livelihoods – providing rural men and women with the skills they need to find work. We look forward to continuing our efforts to close India’s skills gap and contributing to the government’s Skill India Mission.”

SEDI provides 43 certified courses

In addition to IT/ITES, electronics, health, construction, beauty and wellness, hospitality and tourism, automobiles, capital goods, retail, and telecom, SEDI also provides 43 certified courses in these eight fields.
SEDI’s growth into new areas has received backing from several businesses, governmental entities, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as a result of the success of the skilling initiative, providing more rural youngsters in India with opportunities.

ACF also assists young people in earning money, establishing careers, and lifting their families out of poverty.

Despite gender diversity being one of ACF’s key objectives, the ratio of female to male employees in each SEDI centre has remained at a healthy 40:60.

ACF has also hired 2153 women into other organisations and trained 3166 women in traditionally male-dominated technical occupations including welders, security guards, electricians, and technicians.
