So far, the Telangana government has distributed Rs 6,765 crore to 64 lakh farmers as part of the Rythu Bandhu scheme during the Kharif season. Farmers receive Rs 5,000 for each acre of land they own under the scheme during the Kharif and Rabi seasons.
The scheme aims to help farmers buy inputs like seeds and pesticides ahead of the two agricultural seasons. Unlike previous years, when payments were announced in the first week of June, this year’s disbursements were delayed.
The Pradesh Congress Committee’s president, A Revanth Reddy, has called for compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre for farmers whose fields have been inundated as a result of the recent nonstop rain. In the past several days, he claimed, farmers in the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, and Mahboobnagar lost crops on roughly 5 lakh acres.
Farmers who cultivate ganja will not be benefited by the scheme
In another instance, the Telangana government has announced that it will not give any benefit of ‘Rythu Bandhu’ scheme to farmers who cultivate ganja illegally as part of its campaign to eradicate the practice.
About Rythu Bandhu Scheme:
Telangana is a pioneer in farmer empowerment, with its Rythu Bandhu scheme. It is India’s first farmer investment support initiative. Rythu Bandhu Scheme, commonly known as Farmers’ Investment Support Scheme (FISS), is a welfare program run by the Telangana government that helps farmers invest in two crops every year.
The government is offering 5000 per acre every season to 60 lakh farmers to encourage agriculture investment twice a year, during the rabi (Yasangi) and kharif (Rainy) seasons. This is India’s first direct farmer investment assistance initiative, in which cash is provided directly to farmers.
