National Reading Day 2022: Read and Grow

National reading day is observed on 19 June in India. This year 2022, India will celebrate the silver Jubilee or 25th year of National Reading Day.

Reading is one of the very oldest habits that have been done for several years. Before Movies, Theater, TV, and Netflix, reading was one of the biggest modes of entertainment.
But with the growth of technology, the amount of people reading or buying books has been reduced drastically. People in this century want everything instant like instant coffee, fast delivery, short messages, etc.

Reading an actual book makes us calm, concentrated, and patient, which no e-book can do. That’s why National Reading Day is celebrated to make reading a habit.

What is National Reading Day?

Since June 19, 1996, the P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra and P N Panicker Foundation have celebrated World Reading Day. Nationally, they also observe a digital reading month and a reading week.
The purpose of celebrating this day is to promote reading culture and literacy.

In addition, the Kerala government dubbed this day Vaayanadinam, which translates to “National Reading Day.”

Who Is P. N. Panicker?

Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker is the founder of the library movement. He was born on 1st March 1909 and breathed his last on 19th June 1995. People observe the National Reading Day on his death anniversary to pay tribute to his contribution to reading and literacy.
