Karnataka man quit job to open donkey milk farm in Mangaluru, first in Karnataka

A man in Mangaluru quit his high-paying IT job to open a donkey milk farm with 20 donkeys and Rs 42 lakh investment.

“Until 2020, I was employed by a software company. This is the first donkey farming and training centre in Karnataka and one of a kind in India” said the farm owner, Srinivas Gowda.

Gowda, a BA graduate, first started Isiri farms, an integrated agriculture and animal husbandry, veterinary services, training and fodder development centre on a 2.3-acre plot at Ira village in 2020 after quitting his job in a software company. According to a report, he started goat breeding recently and already has rabbits and Kadaknath chicken.

Donkey milk is a medicine formula

Speaking about the benefits of donkey milk and his plan for the farm, he said, “Presently we have 20 donkeys and I have made an investment of around Rs 42 lakhs. We are planning to sell donkey milk, which has a lot of advantages. Our dream is that donkey milk should be available to everyone. Donkey milk is a medicine formula.”

Idea came as donkey species are declining

Gowda said he thought of the idea because of the decline in the number of donkey species. He said, initially people were not convinced by the idea of the donkey farm. He highlighted that several people were apprehensive and made fun of him when the idea of a donkey farm was shared with them. However, he went ahead with the idea and opened the farm.

Received orders worth Rs 17 lakh

The milk will be available in packets and a 30 ml milk packet will cost Rs 150. Gowda told the media that the milk packets would be available at malls, shops, and supermarkets. Gowda also claimed that he has already received orders worth Rs 17 lakh.
