For the first time, a mini Defence Expo will be held in Kolkata from July 6 to 9, according to Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen RP Kalita. According to him, the event will provide an opportunity for start-ups and MSMEs to showcase their products.
“We are planning a mini Defence Expo in Kolkata from July 6 to 9,” GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, Kalita, said at a programme here. He invited members of the industry to attend the three-day expo, which will be held in the city for the first time.
Opportunity for start -ups in defence sector
“It will provide a good opportunity for MSMEs and start-ups in the Defense sector to showcase their products,” he said.
The Eastern Army Commander stated that the armed forces are in contact with top educational institutions for new product research and development, and that he recently visited IIT Guwahati.
According to Kalita, the Russia-Ukraine war taught that a nation must fight its war on its own, emphasising the importance of self-reliance.

DefExpo is the Ministry of Defence’s flagship biennial event, showcasing land, naval, air, and homeland security systems. The goal of DefExpo 2022 is to build on the vision of Atmanirbharta’ in defence and reach the $5 billion target for defence exports by 2024.
