On Thursday, 19 may ,Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the IIT Madras 5G test-bed and successfully tested a 5G call on an indigenously developed network.
This is the first step in making the solution commercially viable.

Overview

The Made-in-India solution has the potential to go from local to global in the coming months. “It also meets India’s needs in a secure and indigenous manner,” the minister added.
At a time when cyber security concerns are at an all-time high, India is working on a local 5G network solution that it claims will be more cost-effective and productive.
According to Vaishnaw, once the solution is ready for commercialization, the government will deploy it on the state-owned BSNL network, after which it will be pitched to other private operators.
“We are confident that a more efficient and cost-effective solution will appeal to businesses not only in India, but also abroad.” We believe that India’s 5G stack will have significant export potential.
The 4G and 5G stack for BSNL is being developed by a consortium that includes C-Dot on the core and TCS and Tejas from the Tata group. The government will use this solution to upgrade BSNL to 4G and then to 5G.
