New smart watch by Brazilian scientists, will tell when and how much water plants need

Highlights:

• Plants will be able to tell us when and how much they need water.
• This smart watch sensor can be placed on the leaves of a plant.
• This device is reliable only for indoor plants.

Researchers at the Brazilian National Laboratory of Nanotechnology have created a smartwatch by which plants will be able to tell us when and how much they need water.

How this smart watch works?

This smart watch work like human’s smart watch. This smart watch sensor can be placed on the leaves of a plant. The clocks work with the help of electric activity. This sensor is connected to an app, which can be installed on the mobile phone. This app transfers the complete data of the plant to the user through wireless technology. With this the user can monitor the water level in the plant.

How this smart watch designed for plants?

Scientists designed special types of electrodes to make this smartwatch. These electrodes can be easily attached to the leaves and they can be monitored for a long time. Two types of electrodes are used in the experiment. First – made of nickel metal and second – by applying a layer of wax on the burnt paper. The electrodes are pasted on the leaves with the help of tape. It has been found that the nickel electrode is successful in sending large signals. After this, scientists made a device with the help of metal electrodes.

Water percentage will reveal the toxicity in plants

The amount of water left in the plant is known through the water percentage in the app. According to scientists, water percentage indirectly tells whether the plant is in the grip of insects, or toxic things.

Only reliable for indoor plants

At this moment this device is reliable only for indoor plants. This smart watch is still need to be developed in a better way to check the correct data of outdoor plants.
