Dhundiraj Govind phalke popularly known as Dadasaheb phalke was an Indian producer director, who was also known as the “The Father of Indian Cinema”. He was also a screenwriter, an editor, an art director, costume designer, and a makeup artist by profession. It was believed that he was the one who created the interest for cinema among people.
Dadasaheb Phalke’s Contribution to Indian Cinema
Dadasaheb Phalke has contributed a lot to Indian cinemas. Raja Harischandra was the first Indian movie debuted by him which was released in1913 and that movie is now known as India’s first full length featured film. He made 95 featured length films and 27 short film in his career. Some of his great works includes Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri(1914), Lanka Dahan(1917), Shakuntala(1920) etc. The Indian government instituted the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1969, an award presented annually by the President of India for lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.
