India ready to supply food stocks if WTO permits, says PM Modi

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that during his talks with US President Joe Biden, he has proposed to supply food items from its reserves to the world if the
World Trade Organization (WTO) accords permission.

The Prime Minister said via video link after inaugural of a boys' hostel and education complex made under Shree Annapurna Dham Trust at Adalai in Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

Modi said the world is amazed to know that India is providing free ration to its crores of people for more than two years during the emergence of Coronavirus pandemic.

The world is facing an uncertain situation to procure fertilizers and petroleum products and all wants to secure their stocks after Russia-Ukraine war began, the Prime Minister said.

I raised these issues to the US President while talking to him and told him that India is ready to provide food stock if the WTO permitted the country as soon as possible, Modi added.

India has enough food stock to feed our countrymen but the farmers of our nation seem to have elaborate arrangements to feed the world. For this, we will have to work as per the laws of the world and I don't know when the WTO will permit India for supply of food stocks, the Prime Minister further said.
