DIPIKA PALLIKAL MAKES A VICTORIOUS RETURN TO THE WORLD DOUBLES SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIPS AFTER A LONG ABSENCE

Dipika Pallikal, who had been out of the international circuit for three years, returned with a bang, helping India win historic victories in both women's and mixed doubles at the World Doubles Squash 
Championships in Glasgow.

She competed in the women's doubles with Joshna Chinappa in the mixed doubles with Saurav Ghosal. After her marriage to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Dinesh Karthik, she took a hiatus from squash.

What could be better than winning a Gold? Winning two!

In the mixed doubles final, she and Saurav Ghosal made Indian history by defeating fourth-seeded English duo Adrian Waller and Alison Waters 11-6, 11-8 to claim the title. The pair won the World Doubles squash championship for India for the first time.

Then, few hours later, Dipika teamed up with Joshna, the Commonwealth Games women's doubles champions who were seeded third in the competition. In a hard-fought final, the duo overcame England's Sarah-Jane Perry and Alison Waters, the second seeds, 11-9, 4-11, 11-8, bringing double pleasure to the India.

Other Indians who took part

Joshna Chinappa and Vikram Malhotra finished tenth in the mixed doubles after losing 11-4, 11-6 to Malaysia's Aifa Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Kamal. Vikram Malhotra and Ramit Tandon were India's lone men's doubles competitors.

India's previous track record

India won two silver medals in this tournament in 2014 and 2016. Dipika and Saurav had previously lost the mixed doubles final in 2016. Saurav and Ritwik Bhattacharya lost in the men's doubles final in 2014.
