KONKAN RAILWAY COMPLETES ITS MISSION 100% ELECTRIFICATION

HIGHLIGHTS:

• The Konkan Railway Corporation has completed electrification on its entire 741-kilometre route
• The route is between Roha in Maharashtra and Thokur in Karnataka
• Electrification will bring about savings of Rs 150 crore on fuel, reduced dependence on diesel

The whole 741-kilometer Konkan Railway Corporation route, which runs from Roha, Maharashtra, to Thokur, Karnataka, has been electrified.

Overview:

The electrification of the 741-kilometer track is expected to save Rs 150 crore in fuel costs. It would also reduce reliance on diesel while maintaining pollution-free, uninterrupted operations.

The Indian Railways intends to electrify its broad-gauge network completely by December 2023. The Konkan Railway connects Mumbai with Mangalore. Along the country's western coast, the Konan Railways line passes through Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. The foundation stone for the electrification project was set in 2015, at a cost of Rs 1,287 crore.

South Central Railway(SCR) completed the electrification of railway lines

In addition, the SCR has completed 163 kilometres of electrification of railway lines in various parts of Andhra Pradesh. The government's 'Mission Electrification of Indian Railways' gets a boost as a result of this. The electrified parts of SCR include Pakala Kalikiri (55.80 km), Kadiri Tummanam gutta (53.30 km), and Dhone Kurnool City (54.20 km).

Indian Railways is working to implement the 'Mission 100% Electrification - Moving Towards Net Zero Carbon Emission' initiatives. The railways are working to electrify the entire network, which will assist to reduce pollution and be environmentally friendly.
