There can be no greater kind act than feeding the hungry. Hunger and starvation can only be comprehended by those who do not have access to food. Several initiatives have been launched to help the needy and fill their plates. Food banks have been set up in various sections of the country as part of one such project.
Goa’s Rajbhavan has joined hands with Street Providence’s food bank fridge project to help the needy. Once a week, the governor’s official residence in Goa will offer 100 cooked meals to Street Providence’s food bank fridge project. These meals will be served to the homeless and others in need.
Mission to eliminate hunger
In an effort to combat hunger and homelessness, Street Providence is placing fridges at several police stations where all types of extra cooked food will be welcomed and stored. Refrigerators are being built at two petrol pumps, two shelter homes, and the organization’s headquarters in Sangolda, in addition to the 15 police stations.
Freshly cooked meals for 100 homeless persons
Donald Fernandes, the Sangolda-based organization’s founder stated, “We intended to place a refrigerator in the governor’s palace, which is at the main gate. This, however, was not permitted due to security concerns. As a result, the Raj Bhavan has agreed to provide freshly cooked meals for 100 homeless persons once a week, as part of our mission to feed the needy”.
