ADAVI TRIBAL BRAND OF FOREST PRODUCE LAUNCHED

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • A new brand of forest products from Nilambur came into being.
  • The Adavi brand was jointly introduced by the NABARD and the JSS.
  • The Adavi brand will initially market pure wild honey, wild asparagus or Shatavari, and diverse gooseberry and soft mango pickles.

Nilambur has developed a new forest products brand. Minor forest products, such as wild honey, gathered by Nilambur tribespeople will now be marketed under the Adavi brand.

Overview:

The Adavi brand was jointly introduced by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) at a tribal celebration in Nilambur.

The JSS and NABARD worked together to bring the Gotramruth project, which contained the Adavi brand, to fruition.

During the tribal celebration, NABARD and JSS organised a Disha display.

Hundreds of tribespeople, including their Moopans, attended the festival. The Moopans, or tribe chiefs, were honoured at the occasion.

What will this brand be used to promote?

The Adavi brand will initially market pure wild honey, wild asparagus or Shatavari, and diverse gooseberry and soft mango pickles.

The Gotramruth Society, which was created by Nilambur tribespeople, will sell the products. Better and broader markets, particularly overseas markets, have been recommended under this new system for promoting Adavi products.

About Jan Shikshan Sansthan

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have been implementing the JSS Scheme, formerly known as Shramik Vidyapeeth, in the country since 1967. It was transferred from the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in July 2018. JSSs provide occupational skill training at the beneficiaries’ homes with minimal infrastructure and costs. JSSs give not just vocational training but also life skills that might benefit participants in their daily lives.
